• What are computer ports?

  A port is a unique numerical combination that is written in the headers of the OSI system protocols of the transport layer and carries out a message between devices interacting on the network. Each equipment has a personal IP address that provides an Internet connection.

  By default, a port is written as a 16-bit number in the range 1-65535. It is required for communication between hosts. There are three types of port: system - from 0 to 1023, user - from 1024 to 49151, dynamic - from 49152 to 65535.

• Why check open ports?

  The scanner allows you to identify open ports on the user (on the device), which carry the risk of data leakage and the threat of OS infection with malware. Closed ports are one of the key aspects of protection against unauthorized third-party interference and scammers.

• How to analyze ports?

  The algorithm of actions for Windows (including the 10th generation): press Win + R, the command line opens, enter "cmd" (without quotes), then enter netstat-a and press Enter.

• How to close vulnerable ports?

  The first task is to identify the source of the problem, i.e. find and stop the program that opened it. If the cause is not found, the system should be scanned with antivirus software. If a connection is opened by malware, it will continuously hold it open. It is recommended to remove the prescribed rules or change the forwarding configurations on the router and install an advanced Firewall.

• What does port forwarding mean and why?

  This is a technology embedded in the functionality of the router (in the settings) through which external Internet requests are redirected to the PC (via the local network). For example, the connection to the web server is made through a router. All PCs connected to it are also on the same network and can communicate with this web server. At the same time, external Internet resources will not be able to interact with this server without port forwarding.
